Lyn Butler started her career in the fashion industry designing her own clothing range at the age of 23. Now running her own interior design company she has been responsible for the design of the showhomes for all three of the new Nottinghamshire developments recently opened by Davidsons Homes.
After leaving the fashion industry Lyn spent 12 years with one of the leading interior design companies, working on everything from one bedroom apartments to £2.5m family homes, before launching her own company, 2die4 Interiors.
Lyn explains “Working with Davidsons is great. They have expanded in Nottinghamshire so there have been opportunities to explore a number of new designs. Every project is different, but each one starts with a face-to-face briefing session with the Davidsons team to understand what they are looking for to reflect the particular home.
The next stage is to develop a ‘mood board’ to give a detailed feel for the proposed design, fabrics, wall decor, furnishings and accessories. The plans also show furniture layouts so that ideas can be developed with feedback from Davidsons. A full proposal is then agreed and we start pulling everything together. It typically takes 6 weeks from initial briefing to installation, and then final on site installation and decoration takes around 5 days”.
One of the highlights of the new showhomes are murals, on many of the walls, which have a real sense of fun about them. Rihanna and fairies in bedrooms, quotations in hallways and chandeliers on landings and staircases.
Lyn continues “I get inspiration from all sorts of places; films, fashion, travelling and a wide selection of European magazines. I also visit the design shows to stay up-to-date with latest product launches. The general trends are moving away from minimalism to luxury and embellishment. For the children’s rooms music and movies provide lots of ideas”.
Stephanie King, Head of Sales at Davidsons Homes, said “Lyn is fantastic to work with. Her designs show a real feel for our homes and an understanding of our aim to do things a little differently. The schemes created for all three of our new Nottinghamshire showhomes have been incredibly well received and the murals in particular have created a great talking point”.
